Bridget Fonda has broken her long silence on Hollywood life.
The “Single White Female” actress, 62, declared in a 2023 video that it was “too nice being a civilian” to return to the spotlight. When asked whether she’d make a comeback, the Golden Globe nominee replied, “I don’t think so.”
Fonda was photographed running errands in Los Angeles on Sunday, her first major public sighting in months. She wore black pants, a taupe top, an unbuttoned yellow long-sleeve and white sneakers, her hair pulled back from her face. The retired actress has reportedly lost 100 pounds in recent years.
The Hollywood legend has largely remained out of public view since her final project, “The Snow Queen,” in 2002. She wed composer Danny Elfman the following year, and the pair welcomed their son, Oliver, in 2005.
Fonda was born into one of Hollywood’s most celebrated acting dynasties. Her father was Peter Fonda, the “Easy Rider” star who died in 2019. Her aunt is Jane Fonda, a two-time Academy Award winner. Bridget’s grandfather Henry Fonda won an Oscar for his role in “On Golden Pond” in 1982.
Elfman, 73, has faced repeated public accusations in recent years. In 2017, fellow composer Nomi Abadi accused him of sexual harassment. Elfman denied the claims but settled with her for $830,000.
Six years later, a second woman alleged that Elfman repeatedly got naked in front of her and touched himself while she slept next to him decades prior. His spokesperson dismissed the 2023 allegations as “baseless and absurd.”
Despite the controversy, Elfman and Bridget put on a united front in 2025 when the duo was pictured together for the first time in 16 years. The photographs marked a rare glimpse into their enduring marriage after more than two decades together.
Fonda’s decision to step away from acting came at the height of her career. She had earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role in 1989’s “Scandal” and built a reputation as a versatile leading lady across thrillers and comedies alike. “Single White Female” remains her most iconic performance, the 1992 thriller cementing her status as a 1990s star.
The actress’s retreat from Hollywood stands in sharp contrast to her famous relatives’ continued public careers. While Jane Fonda has remained politically active and continued acting into her eighties, Bridget has embraced near-total privacy, surfacing only in occasional photographs captured during everyday routines.
Fonda’s Sunday outing in Los Angeles offered a reminder of her transformed life — no red carpet, no premiere, no interview obligations. Just black pants, white sneakers and errands to run.
The couple’s son Oliver, now 20, was raised entirely outside the celebrity spotlight his mother once occupied. Neither parent has shared details of his life publicly.
Elfman continues to work in film music, though the 2023 allegations brought renewed scrutiny to his career. The spokesperson’s statement at that time did not address the 2017 settlement with Abadi.
Fonda has not commented publicly on her husband’s legal troubles. Her 2023 remarks about civilian life remain her only substantive statements to media in over two decades away from the industry.
