‘Remarkable’ Netflix movie inspired by a true story took 16 years to create and left audiences ‘shaken’

Netflix users are captivated by an ‘outstanding’ film based on true events, even though it has left some feeling ‘traumatized’.

Finding specific content on Netflix can be quite challenging unless you employ the hack that takes you directly to the desired category.

A useful strategy is to explore Netflix forums and websites to discover what others are currently watching.

Recently, discussions have emerged about a ‘super intense’ film that’s been labeled the ‘best movie ever’ and a series that continues to grip viewers despite being seven years old.

Currently, there is a lot of buzz around The Goat Life, a survival-drama film released in March this year.

The official Netflix description of the film states: “An Indian man seeking work follows a job lead to Saudi Arabia, only to find himself forced to labor without pay as a goat herder in the remote desert.”

The movie is based on the 2008 best-selling Malayalam book ‘Aadujeevitham’, which tells the true story of Najeeb. It was reportedly banned in several Gulf countries before the ban was lifted, according to TimeLine Daily.

The challenges faced by a Malayali immigrant laborer in the Gulf are depicted in The Goat Life.

It has certainly struck a chord with many Netflix viewers and has become a must-watch among members of the ‘Netflix Bangers’ Facebook group.

“Movie left me traumatized coz this kind of thing happens to a lot of foreigners that gets conned into going to Saudi for jobs only to find there was no job,” one viewer commented in the group.

They elaborated: “They pay huge amount of money for a visa with promises of good jobs and accommodation.”

“One of the best …I barely watch Indian movies on Netflix,” another user remarked, while a third said: “What an emotional ride.”

Another Facebook user simply called the movie ‘outstanding’.

The Goat Life received strong reviews upon its release and maintains an impressive 88 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ganesh Aaglave, writing for FirstPost, stated: “Sukumaran delivers one of career best acts as Najeeb in The Goat Life. Right from his impeccable transformation to his innocent eyes, the actor steals the show in every frame..”

Anupama Chopra from Film Companion commented: “For all the bumps however, Aadujeevitham is a film worth experiencing, especially on the big screen. There is such ambition and artistry in it. I recommend that you catch the original Malayalam with subtitles.”
