Republicans are urging President Donald Trump to run in the 2024 presidential race, and he appears to be ‘considering’ this option, Axios reported.
According to the article, President Trump has told advisers he’s thinking about running for president again in 2024.
This development comes as the president continues to insist that he is the true winner of the 2020 election and that his team will fight to the end in the courts.
Trump still holds an extraordinary sway over millions of GOP voters.
“He’s going to continue to play a significant role in the Republican Party,” said Rick Gates, an aide to Trump in the 2016 presidential campaign. “He’ll have that locked up for at least the next few years.”
Gates also said Trump would likely “seriously consider another run in 2024.”
Trump could remain formidable in a Republican primary. However, just the possibility of Trump running again could freeze the ambitions, fundraising, and staffing of other candidates.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, for his part, said on Monday that President Trump should consider another run in 2024 while refusing to say that the president lost this election to Joe Biden.
