Royal Family Avoids Supporting Meghan Markle and Prince Harry During ‘Difficult’ Time and Says It’s ‘Not Their Fight’

The royal family is staying silent as Meghan Markle faces fallout from child pornography allegations against her estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr.

Royal insiders say King Charles III, Prince William, and Kate Middleton will not publicly address the scandal engulfing Meghan’s family. Andrea Caamano, co-host of Hello!’s “A Right Royal Podcast,” said that palace officials want no part of the drama surrounding the Duchess of Sussex’s 82-year-old father. “I don’t anticipate the royal family becoming involved in this situation,” Caamano said. “Despite Harry and Meghan’s return to the UK, relations remain complicated, and I don’t see the Palace wanting to become involved in matters concerning Meghan’s father.”

Caamano noted that Charles, 76, is launching a nine-day Caribbean tour for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, while William, 42, is preparing for November’s Earthshot Prize Awards in Mumbai. “Ultimately, I think the King and the Prince and Princess of Wales will continue doing what they do best: concentrating on their royal duties and the work ahead of them,” Caamano continued. “I wouldn’t expect any public intervention from the royal family in this particular matter.”

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield echoed that assessment, saying that Charles finds himself caught between fatherly instinct and monarchical caution. “As a father, he would like to offer Prince Harry emotional support during such a distressing situation. However, as monarch, he has to consider the potential consequences of any private conversation,” Schofield said.

The “Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered” podcast host pointed to Harry’s history of discussing private family matters publicly as a key reason for Charles’s hesitation. “The King would be reluctant to discuss such a sensitive matter without reassurance that their conversations would remain private,” she said.

William will also keep his distance, according to Schofield. “This is not his fight,” she said. “William has his own family to protect and his own responsibilities to the Crown. He has little appetite for becoming involved in another Sussex crisis.”

Schofield added that Meghan, 45, and Harry, 42, may have failed in a “responsibility” to alert the institution about the allegations against her father. “Based on my conversations, I have seen no evidence that such a warning was given,” she said.

The scandal erupted last week when reports said Thomas Sr. Is under investigation in the Philippines for possessing child sexual abuse material. Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., claimed he discovered “hundreds, if not thousands” of such images and videos among his father’s belongings in Cebu City. Thomas Sr. Denied the accusations as “sick lies,” while half-sister Samantha Markle accused Thomas Jr. Of fabricating the claims for “revenge.”

Meghan responded by revealing she has known about the “deeply distressing” accusations for several years. “I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children was for one reason: to protect them,” she said in part. “I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families.”

The As Ever founder has been estranged from her father since 2018, before her wedding to Harry. The couple, who share Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, relocated to California in 2020 but reportedly moved back to the UK this August. Caamano noted there has been no publicly confirmed face-to-face meeting between Charles and Harry or the Sussex children since that return.

The distance between Harry and his father persists even as both men deal with family crises on separate continents. While Meghan processes her father’s legal jeopardy, Charles faces his own health challenges and the demands of a modernizing monarchy. The palace’s calculation appears clear: any gesture toward the Sussexes risks entanglement in a narrative they cannot control.

Schofield’s reporting suggests the institution views this as a Markle family matter, not a royal one. Whether that stance holds if the investigation produces charges remains an open question. For now, the silence from Buckingham Palace speaks as loudly as any statement might.
