Two Australians, Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski, have created a floating rubbish bin that collects plastic bottles, paper, oil, fuel, and detergent floating in the ocean. It’s called the Seabin.
The Seabin is automated and works 24/7, and was designed as a cheap and low maintenance alternative to “trash boats.” Its makers are calling it “a revolution in ocean cleaning technology.”
“One of the goals is to make the Seabin from our own plastics to create another Seabin to capture more, it’s a domino effect,” say the creators. “The second goal is to create a world where we don’t need the Seabin.”
Turton and Ceglinski have made nearly everything in-house and aim to start shipping mid to late 2016.
If you want to help them clean up the world’s oceans, you can contribute via Indiegogo. So far they’ve raised an impressive $40,629, but there’s a long way to go to reach their $230,000 goal. Watch the video below for more:
