Shannen Doherty Made Peace with Ex-Husband a Day Before Her Passing

Just a day before she tragically passed away at age 53, Shannen Doherty and her ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko decided to bury the hatchet. This news comes as fans around the world mourn the loss of the beloved actor.

On Saturday, 13 July, Doherty succumbed to her battle with breast cancer, a devastating fight she had been bravely facing since her diagnosis in March 2015.

Her publicist shared the heartbreaking news with People, stating, “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.”

In the months leading up to her death, Doherty found herself embroiled in a contentious divorce with Iswarienko, having filed for divorce in April 2023.

The situation escalated last month when Doherty claimed that her ex was stalling the divorce proceedings intentionally to avoid financial obligations before her passing. The actor was seeking spousal support as her income from residuals had dwindled.

In legal documents, Doherty expressed her frustration, stating, “It is simply not right that Kurt be permitted to prolong our divorce in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me while he continues to live his life and shirk his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years.”

Iswarienko’s lawyer, Katherine Heersema, countered these claims, suggesting that Doherty had turned down a settlement offer made in October 2023. Heersema asserted, “Kurt is not ‘simply waiting for Shannen to die.’ He wants the best for Shannen and he wants both of them to be able to put this case behind them and move forward.”

Reports indicated a significant development occurred on 12 July, just a day before Doherty’s death, as she signed a document waiving her right to spousal support and agreed to a default or uncontested dissolution of their marriage.

According to People, the paperwork stated: “The parties have entered into a written agreement regarding their property and their marriage or domestic partnership rights, including support, the original of which is being or has been submitted to the court.”

After her initial diagnosis, Doherty underwent extensive treatments including a single mastectomy and chemotherapy. She joyfully announced her remission two years after the diagnosis. However, the relief was short-lived as in 2020, she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. Despite continuing treatment, by 2023, her condition had progressed, with metastases to her brain and bones.

Remembered for her iconic roles in “Charmed” and “90210,” Doherty’s courageous battle with cancer and her final moments of reconciliation highlight her enduring spirit and resilience.
