The Olympics is a stage where extraordinary events unfold, and a slow-motion video of a Team USA gymnast has left viewers in utter amazement.
Honestly, whenever the Olympics are happening, it’s always a time of inspiration.
We have the opportunity to witness some of the world’s best athletes performing at the highest stakes imaginable.
So, witnessing something spectacular and astonishing is almost a given.
However, social media users are particularly baffled by the performances of some gymnasts, especially Sunisa Lee from America.
In case you missed it, Team USA stars Simone Biles, Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey led the US to gold in the team event on Tuesday.
They finished with a score of 171.296, nearly six points ahead of the Italian team, which scored 165.494 points. Brazil came in third with a score of 164.497.
Despite the team’s victory, some people on social media appeared more focused on criticising Biles’ hair than her becoming the most decorated US gymnast in Olympic history, and she had a straightforward response for the critics.
Meanwhile, a particular clip of Lee’s balance beam routine has drawn significant attention.
The video has gone viral on Twitter with over five million views, shown in slow motion, effectively highlighting the physics-defying nature of the performance, with several no-hand somersaults.
“Aren’t there laws in physics?” joked one user. Another simply wrote: “This is insane.”
“I’m always in awe of these athletes. Sometimes I fall over putting on my shoes,” commented a third.
“Her hands and arms movement. It’s magical, like a majestic butterfly,” added another.
“There are women defying gravity on a beam and I can’t even lift my leg over my work table,” remarked another.
While the team has enjoyed praise for their gold medal success, the last few days haven’t been entirely joyful.
Lee’s teammate Jordan Chiles caused a stir online following her reaction to not qualifying for the Olympics’ all-around individual final for women’s gymnastics.
Chiles was excluded from joining her teammates, Biles and Lee, in the final due to a specific Olympic rule.
According to the rule, each competing country can send only two gymnasts to the finals.
Lee narrowly outscored Chiles, securing a spot in the final alongside Biles.
Following Lee’s win, Chiles appeared visibly disappointed, and her reaction has sparked debate on social media.
Some people felt she shouldn’t display such annoyance, especially at her teammate, while others defended her, stating she has been exceptional this Olympics and shouldn’t be judged for a moment of frustration.
