Stark Illustrations Reveal The Shocking Truth Of How Much Water You’re Eating

California’s record-setting drought is finally getting people to rethink their water consumption. While people are thinking twice about watering their lawns and taking relaxing baths, the question of whether these measures are enough remains.

Well, probably not, because that’s not where most water is used, as these illustrations by Lithuanian digital artist Eglė Plytnikaitė show. In fact, the food we eat makes up two-thirds of our water consumption, with meat production taking the lion’s share.

Meanwhile, by eating more vegetables, grains, and beans, and eating less meat, you can save water.

You might be thinking that water has already been used for the beef and pork at the supermarket. But if we buy and eat water intensive foods now, the food industry will continue to grow or even increase growing them in the future.

Food for thought.
