We all know the sheer joy of clean ears, but it’s time to drop the Q-Tip because science says you could go deaf from this pseudo-hygienic habit.

Even though the box says not to, we’re all guilty of ramming the Q-Tip deep into our ear canal for that squeaky-clean feeling.
It feels a bit like this.
But audiologist William Shapiro from NYU wants you to stop jamming Q-Tips in your ears. Right now.
“[You’re] pushing the wax further in and the wax can end up sitting next to the ear drum. If you have a load against the ear drum, it won’t vibrate properly and can cause hearing loss.”
That’s right. If you keep poking wax down towards your delicate ear drum, you could lose your hearing.
Plus, William points out that wax does lots of useful things like shifting dead skin, hair, and dust out of our ears. Plus, the acid in ear wax stops fungus growing out of your ears like head mushrooms.
