Suki Waterhouse makes rare comments about ‘dark and difficult’ split from ex Bradley Cooper

Suki Waterhouse has opened up about her past relationship with Bradley Cooper, shedding light on the emotional toll their breakup took on her. The couple was in the spotlight from 2013 to 2015, drawing attention particularly because of their age difference at the time—Cooper was 37 and Waterhouse was 20, which stirred quite a bit of controversy.

When they parted ways in 2015, a source shared with E! News that the split was due to Waterhouse wanting to focus on her acting career before thinking about motherhood. They explained, “She loves Bradley and he loves her but she’s so young and wants to concentrate on her acting career before becoming a mom.”

Reflecting on that period, Waterhouse recently told British Vogue how it left a lasting imprint on her.  She conveyed the isolation and disorientation she felt dealing with public scrutiny during a tough time, stating, “I really will say that I’m pretty strong at this point. But when something very public happens to you and the story behind it is dark and difficult, and you’re actually not doing well, and you can’t explain yourself to the world, that’s very isolating and disorientating.”

Waterhouse, now 32, expressed how it took nearly a decade to find herself and appreciate the growth that comes with entering a new decade of life. “Your 20s are pretty sadistic. The love I experienced [then] was only ever a fetishization, and I think when you only get loved in that way, you only get punished,” she explained. “When you get into your 30s you’re almost instantly afforded a little bit more respect. It’s kind of delightful and shocking at the same time.”

Despite the challenges, Waterhouse wouldn’t change her past experiences. “I wouldn’t take anything back. All these chaotic ways that my life went, it was always material,” she revealed, acknowledging how past hardships shaped her present happiness.

Currently engaged to Robert Pattinson, the actor and singer seems to have found stability and joy in her personal life.  After six years of dating, the couple got engaged and recently welcomed their first child.

Waterhouse shared how prepared and supported she felt entering parenthood with Pattinson. “We really planned it. One day we looked at each other and said, ‘Well, this is as ready as we’re going to be’. He [Pattinson] was there with me and like all dads, he was really nervous, but for someone who’s quite an anxious person, he’s been very calm,” she said, praising her fiancé’s support during this new chapter of their lives.
