Taylor Swift has recruited Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell for her “Patient Zero” music video, set to premiere at the VMAs 2026 on Sunday.
The 36-year-old singer offered a 13-second glimpse of the video during Thursday’s episode of “CBS Mornings.” In the clip, Johnson and Swift mirror each other washing their hands in a dark bathroom. The two women are later seen standing before a grave, with Swift — wearing a dazzling engagement ring — placing a hand on Johnson’s shoulder. Farrell appears getting out of a sports car before all three, dressed in black, meet for a drink.
“This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for,” Gayle King enthused during the segment on the morning show.
Co-anchor Vladimir Duthiers noted that Johnson’s participation should not surprise dedicated fans. During the Emmys 2026, Swift had called out “north or south,” a clear reference to North or South Dakota that hinted at the actress’s involvement. The two women have grown close recently, with Swift allowing Johnson to use her apartment for meetings with her latest rumored flame, MGK.
The “Patient Zero” video tease arrived just two days after Swift announced the single itself on social media. The release is part of a larger rollout: an “encore” version of her 2025 album “The Life of a Showgirl,” featuring four new songs.
Swift detailed the project’s origins in an Instagram post. “About a year ago, you guys did a truly unfathomable thing. Something that completely blew my mind… You gave The Life of a Showgirl the biggest first week for an album in history,” she wrote.
“I took a trip to Sweden to celebrate with Max and Shellback, my two collaborators on this album,” she continued. “We just wanted to reflect and take in how grateful we were for the moment we were in.”
However, the creative session produced more than reflection. During their Sweden trip, the trio wrote and recorded four additional songs: “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding,” and “Babylon.”
“I hope you love them, because they were born out of pure gratitude for your exuberance for and celebration of the album we made,” Swift concluded in her Instagram announcement, confirming the new music would arrive Friday.
Swift had been laying groundwork for months. She embedded hints in her “Opalite” music video in February and across her social media platforms. On Sept. 14, she dropped multiple Easter eggs during a surprise cameo at the Emmys 2026, appearing in a pre-recorded skit with the cast of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”
The original “The Life of a Showgirl” was announced in August 2025 and released two months later. The 12-track album included multiple songs dedicated to her then-fiancé, Travis Kelce. The couple, both 36, married in July at Madison Square Garden.
Despite her studio commitments, Swift has embraced her role as a football wife. She has attended Kansas City Chiefs games this season to support Kelce, the team’s tight end. Last week, she flaunted her wedding ring after Kelce scored his first touchdown of the season in the Chiefs’ victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
“That’s my husband!” she shouted while pointing to her rock, celebrating the moment.
The “Patient Zero” single and “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore” are scheduled for release Friday.
