Camilla Fuentes’ family is speaking out after the 18-year-old vanished days before her college move-in.
The Texas teen, who graduated high school this spring, was last seen Thursday around 4:30 p.m. When relatives believed she had left for her job at a restaurant in North Garland, according to Rowlett police. Her family grew alarmed when she failed to return to their Rowlett home that evening, and their concern deepened after a disturbing discovery outside her workplace.
Her car was found parked outside the restaurant with her keys, Apple Watch and AirPods all left inside the vehicle. However, her laptop and iPad were missing from the car, Fox 4 News reported. Adding to the puzzle, her manager confirmed she was not scheduled to work that Thursday and noted she also missed her Friday shift.
Family members told investigators that disappearing without warning was completely out of character for Fuentes. She had been eagerly preparing to attend Villanova University in Pennsylvania, where she planned to study civil engineering. The disappearance came just days before she was scheduled to leave Texas for her freshman year.
Perhaps most troubling to relatives was what Fuentes appeared to have taken with her. Police said her passport, birth certificate and Social Security card were removed from a lockbox at the family home before she disappeared. She also left behind a note, though its contents have not been made public.
The family believes Fuentes may have been coerced, Fox 4 News reported, despite police stating they do not suspect foul play in her disappearance. Rowlett police are treating the case as a missing persons investigation and have asked the public for assistance.
Fuentes is described as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Authorities have not released any surveillance footage or additional details about potential sightings since she was last seen Thursday afternoon.
