Terrifying Moment Indian Man Gets Dragged After Being Stuck Between Train and Platform

A passenger was dragged for roughly 50 metres after his foot became trapped between a moving train and the platform at Agra Cantt Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh, India, before railway police and bystanders pulled him to safety.

The incident unfolded around 9:35 p.m. Local time on September 8 as the man, wearing a blue button-down shirt, attempted to board the Sabarmati Express. He lost his footing, and one foot slipped into the gap between the train and the platform edge. The train continued moving, dragging him along as he struggled to break free.

CCTV footage captured the commuter being pulled toward the tracks while flailing to escape the gap. Members of the Government Railway Police’s Quick Response Team, stationed nearby, spotted the emergency and sprinted toward him along with fellow passengers.

The rescuers grabbed hold of the passenger in a desperate attempt to wrench him from the narrowing space. They eventually managed to drag him to safety without the situation turning fatal.

GRP inspector Sandeep Tomar said the passenger’s life was saved by the alertness and courage of the police personnel and other passengers who immediately responded to the incident.

The passenger reportedly did not sustain any injuries from what happened.

India’s railway network, one of the world’s largest, carries millions of passengers daily across aging infrastructure. Outdated tracks and signalling systems contribute to frequent accidents across the system. Overcrowding that pushes operations beyond designed capacity strains equipment and safety measures. Human error, including misread signals and fatigue-related mistakes, also figures heavily in many incidents.

The quick intervention at Agra Cantt highlights how rapid response can prevent fatalities in a system where platform-train interface accidents remain a persistent danger. The Government Railway Police maintains Quick Response Teams at major stations specifically for such emergencies.
