A simulation illustrating the scenario of being swallowed by a whale is instilling a new fear in many individuals.
Recently, an event in Chile demonstrated that while the probability of being swallowed by a whale is low, it’s not impossible.
During the past weekend, Adrián Simancas was kayaking with his father, Dell, in the Strait of Magellan off Chile’s Patagonian coast when Adrián was engulfed by a whale.
The terrifying incident was captured on video by Dell, and miraculously, Adrián emerged unscathed.
Adrián confessed he thought he was facing his end.
“At first I thought I had died,” he told Associated Press. “It was like, of course, a lot of terror because I thought no, no, there was nothing I can do.”
Describing the moment, Adrián said: “I saw something between blue and white that passed close to my face and it was like on one side and above me. I didn’t understand what was happening and then I felt like I was drowning.”
A simulation about what could happen if one were swallowed by a whale is circulating widely.
Zack D Films created the viral video last year, leaving viewers ‘traumatized’.
To date, the clip has accumulated an astonishing 62 million views.
The narrator explains in the video: “If you were swallowed by a sperm whale you would be squeezed down its massive throat. You’d continue down its esophagus and into a series of stomach chambers that are filled with digestive acids.”
It sounds as dreadful as it is, highlighted by the dummy used in the simulation having an eternally screaming expression.
The narrator adds: “These acids would immediately start breaking down your body but even if you managed to avoid the acid, the lack of air inside the whale would quickly cause you to suffocate.”
In response to the video, one viewer wrote: “Bro I swear this channel gives me unlocking phobias.”
“This is ACTUALLY traumatizing, not just a slightly weird animation,” commented another.
“What makes it scarier is that there’s no light and the smell, whenever you try to ask for help no one would hear you and you will just rot there,” another individual added.
Fortunately, this wasn’t Adrián’s fate as he was expelled by the whale and subsequently brought back to safety by his father.
Given such a narrow escape, if Adrián isn’t a fan of taking chances, now might be a good time to buy a lottery ticket!
