Tesla owner shares the car’s unexpected state after surpassing 200,000 miles in five years

A Tesla enthusiast has expressed his satisfaction with the company after accumulating significant mileage on his 2017 model vehicle, asserting that he has encountered no problems with it.

Many vehicles start to face difficulties as the mileage increases, which can be particularly concerning for electric vehicles.

EVs have only been available for a relatively short period in the broader history of car manufacturing, which leads to concerns about the longevity of their batteries.

However, this concern has not been an issue for a Tesla owner who acquired a Tesla Model X 100D in 2018.

Christian, the owner, gained attention in 2022 after discussing his experience with the YouTube channel Out of Specs Reviews.

He reported that he had driven approximately 200,000 miles in five years with his 2017 model, still expressing great satisfaction and referring to it as ‘his baby, his daily’.

Tesla estimates that EV batteries can lose between 12 and 15 percent capacity after 200,000 miles. However, Christian reported his Tesla experienced only a 10 percent loss, defying the typical expectations.

Christian mentioned that he has driven his Tesla on Germany’s Autobahn, reaching speeds of around 150 mph without encountering any problems.

He acknowledged that maintaining such high speeds is challenging, but stated that cruising at approximately 125 mph is feasible as long as the battery is sufficiently charged.

By 2024, it’s unclear how well Christian’s Tesla is performing, but if he continued using it as before, he likely added at least 60,000 to 70,000 more miles.

The YouTube community was quite impressed, with many considering purchasing an EV or this specific Tesla model themselves.

One user commented, “The dude’s been running this car ragged for 200k miles, charging mostly at superchargers (which is bad for the battery) and he’s still at 90 percent battery capacity. Dang, that’s incredible.”

Another shared, “I can ignore the typical wear and tear, it’s the battery that impressed me the most. Roughly 10 percent loss is pretty damn good in my opinion.”

A third added, “It’s nice to see the car holding up so well. Battery degradation is low, and interior materials have held up nicely too.”
