John Harbaugh is asking Giants fans to judge him by the process, not the first few loud moments.
Harbaugh, 63, made the case in East Rutherford, N.J., this week after a viral team speech drew fresh scrutiny, and he’s already set the tone for his first training camp with the Giants at The Greenbrier in West Virginia.
“It’s about process and doing things the right way.”
The message fits what Harbaugh has been saying since he arrived in January as the Giants’ new head coach.
“What’s important now? What do I need to do right now?”
He has also brushed off the idea that every awkward clip or offseason headline should trigger panic.
“I’m just happy he completed it, to be honest with you.”
That came after Harbaugh was asked about Jaxson Dart’s viral leap off a yacht and Cam Skattebo’s backflip attempt.
“I was impressed by the yacht. I thought it was pretty nice.”
Harbaugh then said the bigger danger for young coaches is overreacting to everything.
“You make things more important than they are and blow things out of proportion.”
That attitude has already carried into the Giants’ summer work, where Harbaugh has kept his language blunt and his focus narrow.
“I’m not going to be running around screaming at people.”
Instead, he has emphasized structure, organization and daily habits over big declarations.
“Then I’ll pick my spots.”
That same tone showed up at the Giants’ Town Hall in May, when Harbaugh answered a fan who asked about beating the Cowboys, Eagles and Commanders.
“I could care less about what’s happened last year, the year before that, or ten years before that.”
He followed that by steering the conversation back to the work in front of the team.
“All I care about is tomorrow’s practice.”
In the viral moment, the Giants’ social-media clip showed Harbaugh addressing players in a team meeting, and the reaction online leaned more amused than inspired.
“He repeated “The New York Giants” over and over again.”
But Harbaugh’s own words this week point to a coach who expects the early noise to fade if the work stays consistent.
“Hard work always pays off.”
That is the lesson for anyone trying to size up Harbaugh before the games matter: this is a long build, not a one-day speech contest.
