When Holly, an 18-year-old Arizona State University student, went on a swimming trip to Lake Saguaro with her family and their dog, she probably just planned to have a good vacation.
But it seemed Sam, her two-year-old golden retriever, had other plans.
“He’d only gone swimming a few times and it was a larger body of water, so we brought along his doggie life jacket just to be safe,” Holly said. “My dad threw Sam’s tennis ball into the water, which he went after…that is, until he spotted my sister, Ariana, and decided to swim over to her instead.”
“I don’t know if he was trying to save her or save himself, but he put Ariana under for a good five seconds before my dad came to the rescue!”

Thank goodness Holly had her phone to capture the exact moment her dog went rogue.
Despite their intense ordeal, both dog and human were fine.
“We got him back onto our boat and gave him his ball, and all was good. Ariana is also perfectly fine; just a few scratches.”
Sam’s ruff lake adventure went viral on Twitter, garnering more than 500,000 likes and over 150,000 retweets.
