It’s The Sequel To “The Dress”: What Color Is This Jacket?

An Adidas jacket circulating online appears to be the sequel to THAT white and gold (or blue and black) dress with people around the world seeing different colors.

Remember the original debate about The Dress? It was in fact black and blue, but a strange optical illusion made it appear white and gold to some people.

Now this Adidas jacket is causing controversy as people claim to see it as white and blue, black and brown or even green and gold. Take a look.

People don’t know what to think.

“It’s clearly green and gold, people!”

Or is it blue and white?

And this renegade thinks it’s brown and black.

One Photoshopper waded into the debate to “prove” the jacket was teal and gold.

But a later photo of the jacket shows that it is undeniably blue and white. So how does this happen?

It’s all down to a thing called “color constancy,” which means that the human eye’s perception of color can be affected by surrounding objects and lighting, confusing our brain’s interpretation of what exactly we’re seeing.

And even our imagination gets in on the act, as our brain accounts for the lighting that we presume to see.

The optical illusion below shows two squares, A and B, that are actually the same color — but the cylinder’s shadow and diagonal pattern baffle our brains and make B appear lighter.

So now you can wow your friends with your incredible knowledge and remember: don’t trust your brain.
