Former late-night host Jay Leno suffered 3rd degree burns on his face while working on his 1907 White Steam Car. Gasoline spurted onto his face and hands before an explosion occurred.
Leno issued a statement saying he was ok and just needed a few weeks to recover. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, the 68-year-old said, “You have to joke about it. There’s nothing worse than whiny celebrities. If you joke about it, people laugh along with you.”
The former Tonight Show host is staying positive and refusing to let the accident bring him down. He’s setting an example for us all.
“Eight days later, I had a brand new face,” Leno said of the accident, quipping, “And it’s better than what was there before.”
“But really, it was an accident, that’s all,” he continued. “Anybody who works with their hands on a regular basis is going to have an accident at some point. If you play football, you get a concussion or a broken leg. Anything you do, there’s a risk factor.”
The former Tonight Show host suffered “significant burns” to his hands and face, requiring a surgical procedure.
Doc Peter Grossman said Leno just wanted to get back to work, but he needed to take time to heal.
Leno spent over a week in the Grossman Burn Center in LA, undergoing grafting procedures.
He joked as he returned to the stage that there were two shows – “regular and extra-crispy”!
