Trump speaks out after erecting 22-foot gold statue of himself at his own golf course

Donald Trump used social media to draw attention to a towering 22-foot gold statue of himself that has been installed at his golf course in Doral, Florida.

The statue was revealed on Wednesday (May 6), and Trump soon afterward posted about it on Truth Social.

Alongside an image of the sculpture, he wrote: “The Real Deal – GOLD – At Doral in Miami. Put there by great American Patriots!!!”

The oversized gold figure shows Trump with one arm raised in a fist pump—closely echoing the motion he made following the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024.

A small crowd of attendees gathered to watch the unveiling, which was led by Pastor Mark Burns, who is affiliated with Pastors for Trump.

Afterward, Burns posted on X, writing: “Today at Trump National Doral Miami, we witnessed an unforgettable moment with the dedication of the 22-foot statue honoring President Donald J. Trump.

“Let me be clear: this is not a golden calf. We worship the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone. This statue is a celebration of life. It is a symbol of resilience, freedom, patriotism, strength, and the will power to keep fighting for the future of America.”

He continued by describing the statue as a sign that, in his view, God has been protecting Trump. During the remarks, Burns reportedly lifted his phone to a microphone and appeared to play a voice note said to have come from Trump.

“I want to thank Mark Burns, a pastor, he’s a good pastor, he’s a good man,” the president said. “I’ve known him a long time, he’s been with me from the beginning, right from the beginning, maybe about two days later.”

Trump also said: “I want to thank everybody there. I know it was done from love.”

It has been suggested that cryptocurrency investors helped fund the project, though sculptor Alan Cottrill has previously indicated payments did not arrive quickly.

Cottrill has said he accepted the commission for $300,000, and that he kept the statue in a warehouse until the full amount was received.

However, the crypto investors told The Times the statue was fully paid for a year ago, adding of Cotrill: “He’s an amazing artist and despite his comments we greatly appreciate the work he completed on this historic statue.”
