Two Kids Rushed to Hospital After Driver Mowed Them Down on Electric Scooters in California

Two teen girls riding electric scooters were hospitalized after a hit-and-run driver struck them at a Northern California park last week.

Lincoln Police discovered the badly injured victims at Joiner Park on Aug. 26 following reports of a vehicle crash. Both girls required urgent medical treatment and were transported to a local hospital.

Diliara Borisova, mother of 15-year-old Kseniia Borisova, said the duo was riding on the sidewalk, not the road, when a gray truck suddenly turned without signaling and mowed them down.

“They were driving on the sidewalk and passing by the entrance of the park and the truck was driving on the road and he just didn’t make a signal that he was turning, he just turned all the sudden. Just turned. And the kids, it just was not possible to stop,” Borisova told KCRA through a translator.

Kseniia sustained fractures to her leg and skull along with a liver laceration, according to her mother. The injuries and condition of the other victim have not been disclosed.

Borisova is now urging police to catch the driver before he can strike again.

“That driver can do that again. To someone else, not only her daughter, because he just ran away,” she told the news outlet through a translator.

The department’s traffic unit is actively investigating the incident. Lincoln Police are searching for the driver of the gray truck, who fled the scene after striking the girls, and authorities expect hit-and-run charges once he is located.

The collision has drawn fresh attention to the dangers faced by young e-scooter riders sharing space with motor vehicles, even on sidewalks meant to separate them from traffic.
