U.S. Hits Record 1,000 COVID-19 Deaths Per Day

One person died every 80 seconds from the coronavirus in America.

More than a thousand individuals across the United States have died from the coronavirus in the last few days. This brings the total number of deaths to a staggering 137,000 people. Over 4 million have been infected since the pandemic struck, and the numbers continue to soar.

According to the COVID-tracking project, there were 1,178 new deaths Friday alone. There were 1,038 deaths on Tuesday, 1,117 Wednesday, and 1,039 Thursday. 

Arizona, California, Florida, and Texas continue to register the most number of new cases and deaths.

White House coronavirus task force coordinator Deborah Birx said, “It’s hard for people to understand how deeply you have to clamp down. We have to change our behavior now before this virus completely moves back up through the north.” 

President Trump acknowledged that the coronavirus pandemic will “get worse before it gets better.”

Public health officials have appealed to the public to heed health guidance such as wearing masks and observe social distancing.
