Valerie Bertinelli is officially divorced, but it cost her a lot of money.
Bertinelli and her ex, Tom Vitale, were separated on Nov. 22, according to court papers, and Bertinelli rejoiced in a video sharing news that she was “happily divorced.”
Betinelli was ordered to pay Vitale $2.2 million as part of the divorce settlement.
According to the documents, both have waived spousal support as part of a prenuptial agreement and will have separate dwellings, with Bertinelli staying permanently in Malibu. The documents further state that the $2.2 million she paid Vitale was in addition to the $500,000 she deposited to his bank account on May 24.
While that may appear to be a lot of money, it hasn’t dampened Bertinelli’s capacity to rejoice. On Tuesday, she turned to social media and stated, “While in an airport terminal on my way to see my son, Wolfgang Van Halen,” the 62-year-old remarked “My lawyer just called. The papers were all signed. They are about to be filed.”
On November 24, 2021, the actress filed for legal separation, then on May 12, 2021, she filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court. She claimed “irreconcilable differences” as the basis for the marriage’s divorce.
Bertinelli, despite the fact that she is now officially unmarried, is unlikely to return to the dating scene. She told Today show co-host Hoda Kotb in May that she’s done with love and hopes to live happily ever after as a divorcee.
“I am gonna be more than happy to be happily divorced and spend the rest of my life alone,” she said matter of factly. “I’ll be happy that way. Well, with my six cats and my dog and my son, and hopefully one day grandchildren.”
