A Wisconsin elementary school teacher, 24, found herself under arrest this Wednesday for engaging in inappropriate relations with a student, all while her wedding was just around the corner.
Madison Bergmann, the teacher in question, allegedly kissed her 11-year-old fifth-grade student multiple times, a shocking discovery made when the boy’s mother overheard a phone conversation between him and Bergmann, as reported by CBS News Minnesota.
The student’s parents unearthed a series of texts that led to the boy’s father confronting the teacher at River Crest Elementary School with printed evidence of their exchanges.
The alarming texts revealed Bergmann discussing their secret encounters which occurred in the classroom during lunch breaks or after school hours.
Charging documents reveal that she expressed pleasure in the child’s touch and their kissing sessions.
Authorities found a folder in her bag labeled with the victim’s name, filled with handwritten notes detailing their kissing escapades, further incriminating her.
In a twist of conscience, one letter from Bergmann read, “One of my cousins is in the 5th grade and I can’t imagine a man talking to her how we talk. I know we have a special relationship and I do love you more than anyone in the world but I have to be the adult here and stop.”
The timeline of the abuse remains unclear, but it was revealed that Bergmann had been given the boy’s phone number by his mother last December during a holiday trip to the Afton Alps, coinciding with the month she got engaged.
Upon questioning, Bergmann chose to remain silent and requested an attorney, according to the documents.
Hudson School District has since suspended Bergmann, prohibiting her from contacting any students, parents, or staff, and issued a statement highlighting the severity of the breach of trust involved.
Bergmann’s social media indicated her upcoming wedding planned for July, adding another layer of disbelief to the timing of her arrest.
Bergmann’s teaching career at River Crest Elementary began in 2022, marked by an enthusiastic Facebook post featuring her classroom.
“Can’t wait for school to start!” she posted last August, unaware of the impending scandal.
Bergmann is now facing charges of first-degree child sexual assault.
She has been released on a $25,000 signature bond.
