Woman Quits Her NY Job To Build Beautiful, Sustainable Bamboo Homes In Bali

Elora Hardy is the inspiring woman who left behind a successful fashion career in New York to build bamboo houses in Indonesia.

Hardy and her team have spent the last five years taking bamboo construction to new heights, hoping to inspire people to use the material for building homes.

Bamboo is a sustainable material that is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet — making it an attractive and environmentally-friendly option for building houses.

It has the compressive force of concrete and the strength-to-weight ratio of steel.

But it is not without its weaknesses: damage from insects and moisture are problematic, but if treated, bamboo structures can last a lifetime.

Hardy uses naturally occuring boron to treat the bamboo and make it indigestible to insects.

The results are stunning.
