Guess what? There’s a Hollywood star who’s been in an insane number of movies, and you might not even recognize him.
That’s because he’s usually hidden under layers of makeup and prosthetics. Imagine needing superhuman vision to spot him!
This actor has racked up over 150 credits in the past three decades and has become a favorite in the special effects community for his unique physicality.
Still can’t figure out who he is? Let’s dive into some of his roles.
This mystery guy has shared the screen with icons like George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Meryl Streep.
He’s been directed by some of the best in the biz and always lands the coolest, most intense roles.
Chances are, you still haven’t guessed who he is.
Most of the time, his face is completely obscured by makeup and costumes, and his slim build allows the special effects teams to transform him into just about anything, from bulky to eerie.
Some of his memorable roles include playing the lovable zombie Billy Butcherson in “Hocus Pocus” and collaborating with director Guillermo del Toro as Abe Sapien in “Hellboy,” as well as the Faun and the Pale Man in “Pan’s Labyrinth.”
When fans finally connect the dots on social media, they’re totally shocked.
One person wrote on X: “I watched that movie but didn’t know he was that monster.”
Another said: “Never knew he was in Batman Returns!?!”
Another fan shared: “There’s a few parts there I never realised he played. I feel somewhat dumb now. Thanks!”
And one person summed it up perfectly: “He’s literally every creepy character you can imagine. He was in some movie and then I watched Hellboy and had no idea till the credits.”
Surprise, it’s Doug Jones!
Jones has been crushing it in Hollywood for years, appearing in award-winning films like “Pan’s Labyrinth,” which scored three Oscars for its stunning makeup and costumes.
Despite being shrouded in makeup, Jones is intensely dedicated to his craft.
He dives deep into each character, mastering their mannerisms and expressions to deliver powerful performances without a word.
While many stars crave the spotlight, Jones prefers to let his transformative performances speak for themselves.
In a chat with BuzzFeed, Jones shared: “I’m hired because I’m a tall, skinny guy – with other talents, I hope.
“But the creature effects guys love to start with a skinny, long palette because they can build on it and not make it too bulky.”
Guillermo del Toro, one of Jones’s frequent collaborators, also raved about his skills to BuzzFeed: “A creature performer needs to be a very odd combination of [a] marathon runner and a mime, who can express himself through layers and layers of latex and acrylic and silicon.
“It’s a very, very rare discipline… [and] there are very, very few that are actual actors, in my opinion, that goes beyond being able to work in a suit or under makeup.
“Doug is a proper actor.”
