A man that caused a Transavia flight to make an emergency landing last month has died after contracting an infection.
The Transavia flight had to make a stopover in Portugal due to the man’s invasive smell. The man has been identified as Russian rock musician Andrey Suchilin.
His body odor was apparently so bad that others on the plane were fainting and vomiting. Though the flight crew put him in temporary quarantine inside the plane’s bathroom, they still had to make an emergency landing to let the man off the plane.
The 58-year-old reportedly was on vacation in the Canary Islands when he contracted a deadly infection. The disease caused his tissues to die from necrosis resulting in the horrible smell.
Suchilin reportedly caught the infection in Gran Canaria and his wife mentioned that he had sought medical attention before leaving Spain. The man was diagnosed with an “ordinary beach infection” and was given antibiotics.
But his condition worsened as he was on the flight to Amsterdam. His wife wrote on his Facebook page on his behalf explaining that her husband was in intensive care and that his condition was critical. She was also asking for her friends to help her raise money for his medical bills.
Suchilin’s organs began to fail as the infection quickly spread throughout his body. His condition got so worse that he had to undergo daily dialysis treatments.
He died on June 25 with his wife posting on his Facebook page “Andrei’s gone. Alas.” Since the man passed away overseas, the wife is bringing his remains back to Russia.
