Hold Up, TikTok! Is Making Drinks in Your Sink Really a Thing Now?
TikTok is no stranger to sparking bizarre fads, from daredevil driving challenges to chugging dangerous concoctions. The latest trend raising eyebrows? The “Sink Drinks” craze. Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like—people are using their kitchen sinks as giant mixing bowls for beverages. Sounds questionable? Absolutely.

The idea behind this trend is pretty straightforward: a sink holds more liquid than your average jug or bowl. It seems the only reason this has caught on is the sheer novelty and the influence of TikTok trendsetters.
Online reactions have been a mix of amusement and sheer disbelief.
“Who does that?” questioned one puzzled TikToker.
“That is the dumbest idea I ever seen,” another exclaimed.
“Just no,” a third chimed in.
“Oh no will you drink it,” asked a fourth, clearly concerned.
“In the sink really nasty,” a fifth declared.
But here’s the kicker—this trend isn’t just weird, it’s potentially hazardous to your health.
Dr. Gareth Nye, Programme Lead for Medical Science, issued a stern warning against the practice. He explained that the kitchen sink is one of the riskiest spots in any kitchen. It’s a hotspot for bacteria and mold from all the food and drinks we rinse off there. Ever think about the germs from that raw chicken or the old coffee residue in your sink?
According to Magnet Kitchens, research by The National Sanitation Foundation revealed alarming stats: “45 percent of kitchen sinks tested positive for coliform bacteria such as E. coli, and 27 percent contained molds known to cause allergic reactions and respiratory issues.”
Dr. Nye also highlighted that many sinks suffer from blockages which can accumulate harmful substances like grease or fat.
So, next time you’re tempted to jump on a viral TikTok trend, maybe stick to safer grounds. Mixing your drinks in a kitchen sink? Let’s pass on that and leave the sink for washing up. Remember, not every TikTok trend is worth following!
