Sonic 3 unveils first trailer featuring Keanu Reeves as the new villain, sending fans into a frenzy

The debut trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has dropped, and there’s one element that has particularly thrilled fans.

This forthcoming film marks the third chapter in the cinematic adaptation of the legendary video game series.

Returning to their roles from previous installments are James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, and Idris Elba.

Jim Carrey is also making a comeback, reprising his role as Dr. Robotnik from the second movie in the franchise.

The trailer shows Robotnik in a less than optimal state, having become out of shape and despondent since the events of Sonic 2, but he reunites with an old partner.

Fans, however, are buzzing more about a new addition to the cast rather than the returning members.

Joining the cast is Keanu Reeves, known for his roles in The Matrix and John Wick.

Reeves will provide the voice for Shadow the Hedgehog, a character new to the movie series.

Shadow, a darker counterpart to Sonic, made his debut in the Sonic universe in 2001’s Sonic Adventure 2.

Reeves’ involvement adds a new dimension to the film as Shadow comes to life on the big screen.

Fans quickly took to social media to express their enthusiasm.

One user commented: “This is definitely going to be the best one. I’m so excited.”

Another wrote: “Keanu Reeves’ voice in Shadow has to be one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard in my life.”

A third person stated: “Shadow looks so good man. I never would have guessed we’d be here after that first Sonic design reveal.”

Another fan mentioned: “This is motivating me to catch up and watch the 2nd movie!”

A brief spoiler warning for the upcoming film follows.

The plot sees Sonic, Tails the Fox, and Knuckles the Echidna reuniting to face a new and formidable foe, Shadow.

Shadow’s powerful abilities necessitate an unlikely alliance between the trio of heroes and a former adversary.

This leads them to team up with Dr. Robotnik.

In addition to his role as the mad scientist Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Carrey will also portray Robotnik’s father.

The movie is slated for release on December 20, 2024.
