The cost of living crisis has even reached McDonald’s, surprising one TikToker with the total of his usual order.
With young people struggling to enter the housing market, they now also face challenges affording even a quick meal at McDonald’s without going into debt. What has the world come to?
If you think I’m exaggerating, hear it from a TikToker who highlighted the price hike of his standard order and the overall increase in fast food prices.
Christopher Olive, a content creator and aspiring strongman, shared his recently purchased meal from the famous golden arches in 2022.
The meal included a Smoky Double Quarter Pounder BLT burger, large fries, and a Sprite – a relatively modest order, all things considered.
Can you guess the total cost?
It’s certainly more than a Happy Meal, and just a few years back, you would expect such a meal to be around $10 or less.
However, Christopher was shocked when he received the receipt for his meal.
He was charged an astonishing $16.10 for his straightforward meal.
In the video, he says: “So I get there’s a labour shortage, I get there’s wage increases and a number of other things but… sixteen dollars?
“Sixteen dollars for a burger, a large fries and a drink. It’s just crazy.”
The video, which has garnered nearly 180,000 views at the time of writing, sparked thousands of comments from the online community, showing a divide in opinions.
Some find $16 an outrageous price for a burger meal, while others acknowledge the increased costs affecting the supply chain.
One commenter said: “Five Guys prices at McDonald’s?!?” with Christopher responding: “It’s crazy.”
Another commented: “It’s officially not convenient or affordable anymore, might as well go to the store and buy hamburger meat.”

Another user added: “I make a lot more of my own food these days because of stuff like this,” to which the TikToker replied: “Exactly. I eat 90 percent from food I cook and this really shocked me.”
However, not everyone agrees, suggesting he picked one of the priciest menu items.
One person commented: “Bro ordered the most expensive meal they have and acted surprised,” while another noted: “Because you got DOUBLE DELUXE BACON quarter pounder, literally the most expensive option on the entire menu.”
Others provided tips for saving money, such as downloading the McDonald’s app for deals. One person explained: “Download the app. You can literally eat McDonald’s for under $6 every time.”
Another suggested: “Use the McDonald’s app, sometimes they have a 50 percent off and other offers.”
