Aubrey Plaza shares why filming explicit movie featuring real sex scene was a ‘nightmare’

Aubrey Plaza once reflected on a genuine sex scene she filmed for a movie, and it appears she wasn’t eager to repeat the experience.

Throughout her career, Plaza has acted in numerous films and television shows. She’s best known for roles in Parks and Recreation, Agatha All Along, and The White Lotus.

Among her many credits, she appeared in the 2013 film The To Do List, alongside well-known actors like Bill Hader, Rachel Bilson, Andy Samberg, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse from Superbad.

In this explicit film, Plaza’s character, Brandy Klark, engages in a scene of self-pleasure. This marked Plaza’s first sex scene, and she was unaware that she’d actually need to perform the act.

She described the scene as a ‘nightmare’. In a conversation with The Sunday Times about the daring film, Plaza remarked, “I was like, this is the weirdest acting job I’ve ever had in my life.”

Plaza commended the movie’s director, Maggie Carey, for being ‘sensitive to things that maybe a male director wouldn’t be sensitive to.’

Carey, in turn, praised Plaza, noting the actor was ‘game for anything’, often prioritizing comedy over vanity.

Plaza also recounted filming this scene with Conan O’Brien, remembering Carey instructing her to ‘masturbate, like it says in the script’.

“When I showed up, the camera was mounted on the ceiling, I was in my underwear and a Clinton T-shirt and there were a bunch of old men smoking. You know, the crew guys,” Plaza shared.

Though the crew wasn’t actually smoking, that’s how Plaza, known for her role in Monsters University, imagined it.

“Then I went and touched myself,” she added. “I thought I was doing one thing and then, when I showed up, it was a whole different thing; it was a full-body shot.”

Although Plaza is hesitant to film such a scene again, she is open to the idea of a Parks and Rec reboot.

“I mean, I will do whatever Amy Poehler wants to do,” she mentioned to UNILAD when asked about it last year.

“I do whatever she does. If she’s in, I’m in. If she’s out, I’m out,” Plaza elaborated about Inside Out star Poehler.

Rashida Jones, another star from Parks and Rec, has expressed similar feelings in a separate conversation.

Jones stated about reuniting with her former co-stars: “Oh, anytime, any day. I mean, we all are still friends, we text. I talk to Amy [Poehler] every day.

“If there’s a reason and somebody says, ‘Let’s do it’, I think every single one of us would say yes.”
