Significant changes announced following Trump’s cancellation of Kamala Harris’ ‘confidential’ Secret Service protection

In response to Donald Trump’s decision to terminate former Vice President Kamala Harris’ Secret Service protection, an update concerning her security has been released.

During the 2024 election, Trump and Harris were rivals as they vied for the presidency of the United States.

Ultimately, Trump emerged victorious, commencing his second term in January of this year.

Following the election, it was expected that Harris would receive Secret Service protection for the customary six-month period; however, Joe Biden had extended this protection to one year.

This protection has now been revoked.

Like Hunter and Ashley Biden, the former president’s children, Harris will no longer receive Secret Service protection.

A letter regarding the change in her protection status states: “You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris.”

A senior advisor to Harris confirmed the development to NBC, noting: “The vice president is grateful to the United States Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety.”

Harris is set to embark on a US tour for her memoir “107 Days,” which is scheduled for release in September and will delve into her previous presidential campaign.

Due to safety concerns, an update has been made to ensure her continued protection.

At present, Harris will be safeguarded by the California Highway Patrol.

The LA Times reported that a deal was confirmed following discussions between California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

With the loss of Secret Service protection, Harris not only forfeits physical security but also access to threat intelligence.

Mayor Karen Bass criticized Trump’s decision, as reported by the Daily Mail: “This is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation in the form of firings, the revoking of security clearances and more.

“This puts the former Vice President in danger and I look forward to working with the governor to make sure Vice President Harris is safe in Los Angeles.”

Regarding her future, Harris previously spoke with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, expressing her intention to take a break from politics.

“At this time, I will continue serving and leading outside of elected office,” Harris announced earlier this year.

“I’m eager to reconnect with the American people, support Democratic candidates nationwide who are committed to bold leadership, and share more about my next steps in the months to come,” she added.

Colbert noted that Harris had led in early polls and questioned why she chose not to pursue the governorship of California.

He asked: “Why are you sitting this out? Are you saving yourself for a different office?”

While Harris denied it, the audience responded enthusiastically with chants of ‘yes’.
