Amy Schumer shares update on surprising diagnosis following internet criticism over ‘moon face’

Amy Schumer recently shared a health update following online criticism about her appearance and addressed misconceptions about why she deleted her Instagram photos.

The comedian opened up about her diagnosis of Cushing’s syndrome, which is caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of cortisol, a hormone.

In an Instagram video, Schumer expressed, “I want so much for women to love themselves and be relentless when fighting for their own health in a system that usually doesn’t believe them.”

According to the National Institutes of Health, Cushing’s syndrome symptoms can include easy bruising, increased body fat around the neck and shoulders, thin arms and legs, and a round face.

Schumer revealed that she had been receiving steroid injections, which some believe can lead to Cushing’s syndrome, as part of her treatment for breast reduction and C-section scars.

On the Call Her Daddy podcast, Schumer explained, “So I got these was getting these steroid injections and so it gave me this thing called Cushing syndrome — which I wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard.”

After recently deleting all her Instagram posts without any specific reason, Schumer updated her followers on her health situation.

She clarified, “Hey media outlets, I didn’t delete my old photos because they were pre me losing weight. That’s a narrative you created. I’m proud of how I’ve looked always. I have been working to be pain free and I finally am.”

“My endometriosis is better. My back is healing. I no longer have Cushing syndrome so my face went back to normal. I am grateful to be strong and healthy especially for my son.”

Schumer further elaborated, “But your Instagram is not your identity it’s a curation of what you want the world to see and I feel great strong and beautiful and it’s been fun sharing that. I didn’t purposely go on a ‘weight loss journey’ that’s a fine thing to go on.”

She continued, “My focus has been on health. I’m sure my weight will always fluctuate. I’m a perimenopausal woman on HRT meds. Wishing you strength and self love on whatever path you’re on as long as it’s kind and respectful to all people. No matter their weight race or religion peace!”

To showcase her ‘new’ Instagram profile on Wednesday (November 12), Schumer posted a photo of herself wearing a Valentino Red Silk-Wool Heart Mini Dress paired with Chanel shoes.
