Brian Austin Green is facing criticism on social media after opening up about his past marriage to Transformers actor Megan Fox and saying it was driven by ‘physical attraction’.
Green and Fox first met while working on the ABC sitcom Hope & Faith in 2004. They married in 2010, went on to have three sons together, and eventually separated in 2020. Their divorce was finalized in 2022.
Reflecting on that chapter of his life during a recent episode of the I Do, Part 2 podcast, Green said: “My ex and I were together for almost 15 years. We were married for almost 10 years, and I led with physical attraction.”
He continued: “First, I’d be physically attracted to somebody and then sort of build a relationship around that,” he added before revealing how his attitude towards relationships changed following the high-profile split, saying he ‘didn’t want to repeat the past’.
The 52-year-old also explained to Amy Robach and TJ Holmes that he turned to therapy afterward in an effort to figure out what he brought into a relationship that was toxic.

His remarks quickly drew strong reactions online, with some people arguing the comments were unfair to Fox.
One person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “What a lack of respect for the mother of his three children… for a little attention! Pathetic.”
Another agreed: “why did he feel it was necessary to say this out loud.”
A third added: “I’ve seen her interviews and read her book and Megan Fox is really intelligent, a great conversationalist and she’s very self aware so in my opinion this translates to he really didn’t appreciate her for who she was,” penned a third,
Not everyone took issue with what he said, however. Some listeners felt Green was simply acknowledging a mistake in how he once approached relationships.
One supporter wrote: “He said ‘led’ with physical attraction, meaning he put it FIRST. Its okay to say he made a mistake in doing so and I wish more men realized that beauty and looks fade.”
Another commented: “Don’t most men do this?!”
Elsewhere in the podcast, Green said his outlook has shifted and that he now believes it is important to be ‘friends with someone’ before moving into a more serious romantic connection.
That, he explained, was the foundation of his relationship with Dancing with the Stars professional Sharna Burgess, whom he began dating in 2020 and became engaged to in 2023.

Green said of Burgess: “We were really, really good, easy, natural friends to begin with,” Green said of relationship with the ballroom dancer. “Then we realized, in being physical, that we really worked well together, and then it became the relationship.”
The couple welcomed their son, Zane, in 2022, and later announced their engagement in September 2023.
After her breakup with Green, Fox went on to date Machine Gun Kelly. The former couple welcomed a daughter, Saga Blade Fox-Baker, in March 2025.
