One guest at Travis and Taylor’s wedding has shared the standout moment that many attendees initially assumed was part of a bit, as more details continue to surface from the event widely dubbed the “wedding of the year.”
Although everyone in attendance at the Madison Square Garden ceremony reportedly had to sign strict NDAs, a number of well-known guests have since spoken publicly about what unfolded during the celebrations, which took place on July 3 and quickly became one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of the year.
Jonathan Thomas, CEO of American Century Investments, discussed the ceremony on an episode of The Compound and Friends podcast. According to him, one moment in particular left people thinking the couple had to be joking, and it centered on Adam Sandler.
Sandler served as the officiant for the ceremony, and Thomas said the surprise of seeing him in that role took a moment to sink in for the crowd.
“He came down, everybody laughed and thought it was a joke at first.
“He probably spoke for 20 or 30 minutes, vacillated between funny, very sincere, sang a few things.”
As the pair exchanged vows, including “for richer and for poorer”, Sandler also reportedly slipped in a joke.
“You’re not going to have to worry about that.”
Thomas said the actor balanced the humor with more heartfelt advice for the newlyweds.
“Kiss each other every day, in the morning, at night after dinner, just kiss often.”
Other reports about the ceremony have painted a similarly star-studded but surprisingly intimate picture, with the officiant role standing out as one of the evening’s biggest shocks to guests.
Sandler and his daughters, Sadie, 20, and Sunny, 17, had already become familiar faces to fans during the Eras Tour, attending multiple shows across the world and often being seen swapping friendship bracelets and singing along.
People close to the couple have also said that when Taylor and Travis first confirmed their relationship publicly, Sandler was among the most enthusiastic supporters in Hollywood. He previously spoke warmly about them during a widely shared appearance on The Howard Stern Show.
“She means an awful lot to our house,” he said in a sweet moment on the show.
Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid also commented on the ceremony during an interview with CNN, praising the way Sandler handled officiating duties and the balance he struck between comedy and sentiment.
“Adam Sandler did a phenomenal job with the vows, just how he went about bringing a little bit of humor, but also some sensitivity,” the 68-year-old noted.
He later said the speech “was touching” and that Sandler did a “great job” marrying the happy couple.
