North West says she wants to work at Starbucks when she turns 14.
The 13-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, North West, told Dazed magazine that she is eyeing a “regular job” at the coffee chain next year. She pointed to her upcoming birthday as the key milestone that would make employment possible. Her comments come amid continued public scrutiny of her social media presence and fashion choices, which have drawn mixed reactions online.
Speaking to Dazed, she said: “I wanna work at, like, Starbucks next year.’ I think I can next year ’cause I’m gonna be 14, so… I think I can. I want to have a regular job, I guess.”
The teenager has already carved out her own path in entertainment. She released her debut EP N0rth4evr and performed at the Rolling Loud music festival earlier this year alongside rapper Molly Santana. That collaboration held special significance for the young artist, who had long admired her stage partner.
“Molly was the perfect person to do this with me because I’m her biggest fan for real. Last year at Summer Smash I was screaming at her set; it’s so crazy. I never thought that day would come,” she said.
She continued: “It’s cool to show that females can connect through their music – because it’s always beef and stuff, and it’s never like that [with me]. I never wanna have beef with any girl, you know?”
North West also opened up about her evolving approach to preparation for performances. Where she once preferred spontaneity, she has grown to value structured rehearsal time.
“I used not to rehearse. I used to want to go out there and just see what happens. But I like dance rehearsing,” she said. “So maybe just going to rehearsal, and then going to the studio; that’s a perfect day. Or having a big show would be the most ideal day.”
The prospect of a typical workplace experience faces obvious complications given her public profile. North West commands approximately 2.6 million followers on Instagram, a scale of attention that would make anonymity at any retail job virtually impossible. The tension between celebrity children seeking ordinary experiences and the realities of their visibility has surfaced before, with other famous offspring drawing criticism for brief forays into service work that some dismissed as performance rather than genuine employment.
Her mother has previously addressed the challenges of parenting in the spotlight. During an appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Me Daddy podcast, Kim Kardashian discussed the particular difficulty of managing her daughter’s bold aesthetic choices under public observation.
“It’s really hard and it’s really interesting because all the kids are wearing the same things. But then my daughter tries to wear it, and then I’m like, ‘OK, we’re never wearing that again.’ Unfortunately, we made that mistake in front of the whole world,” she said.
Kim added: “She does listen to me, but in other areas, I’m like, ‘Babe, if you want blue hair, it is what it is.’ You know, it makes her so happy. I would never take that creativity away from her.”
She finished: “I just think anyone that’s raising kids, especially four kids by myself, I’m doing the best that I can.”
North West’s stated career aspiration stands in contrast to her existing entertainment ventures and the substantial financial resources available through her family. Whether the Starbucks plan materializes may depend on both corporate hiring policies for 14-year-olds in applicable jurisdictions and the practical feasibility of her working a standard shift without disruption.
