Salma Hayek went blond to channel her best friend Penélope Cruz this Halloween.
The “Frida” star, 60, transformed into Piña, Cruz’s character from the A24 film “The Invite,” for Vas J Morgan and Michael Braun’s “Hockey Halloween Bash” on Sunday. Her makeup artist Pablo Maciasr shared photos of the look on Instagram that same day, revealing a dramatic departure from Hayek’s signature raven-black hair.
Eduardo Ponce created the bright blond bob with bangs that defined the costume. Hayek paired the wig with a black silk button-down, jeans, and a black leather jacket to fully capture Piña’s aesthetic from the movie.

“The Invite,” which also stars Olivia Wilde, Seth Rogen, and Ed Norton, provided the unlikely inspiration for a tribute to the women’s three-decade friendship. Cruz has not yet publicly reacted to Hayek’s costume choice.
The gesture arrives during a year of visible mutual support between the two actresses. Cruz recently revealed that she once stepped in to do Hayek’s makeup for a movie premiere after Hayek’s glam squad canceled and her electricity went out.

Despite their close bond, the pair have shared the screen only once, in 2006’s “Bandidas.” Their friendship has otherwise played out through red-carpet appearances, interviews, and social media tributes rather than joint film projects.

Hayek’s Halloween transformation stands out among celebrity costumes for its personal dimension. Rather than referencing a generic pop-culture figure, she chose to embody a character created by her closest industry confidante.

The costume’s details matched Piña’s on-screen look with precision. Maciasr’s Instagram post highlighted the makeup work that completed the transformation, while Ponce’s hairstyling provided the character-defining blond bob.
Whether Cruz will reciprocate next Halloween remains an open question. The source article speculated that the Chanel ambassador might one day dress as Hayek, continuing their tradition of public affection.

The “Hockey Halloween Bash” drew multiple celebrities, but Hayek’s costume garnered particular attention for its layered meaning — a famous actress becoming her best friend’s fictional alter ego.
