Alanis Morissette Comes Out as Pansexual

Alanis Morissette has come out as pansexual.

The ‘Ironic’ singer, 50, made the revelation during the Nov. 3 episode of the “Handsome” podcast, co-hosted by Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster, and Mae Martin. The disclosure came near the end of the segment when Feimster, 44, offered a comment about Morissette’s past relationships with men.

“I’m sorry for the men that hurt you, but I’m not sorry for the songs that came from it,” Feimster told the singer, adding, “Did it make you want to be a lesbian at any point?”

Morissette answered, “I’m pansexual, so, yeah.”

Notaro then interjected, “Wait, you’re not really pansexual, are you?” When the hosts joked that she should have opened the podcast with this news, Morissette fired back, “I like to leave it for the epilogue.”

The Canadian singer-songwriter has been married to husband Mario “Souleye” Treadway since 2010. The couple share three children: Ever, 15, Onyx, 10, and Winter, 7.

Morissette’s revelation follows remarks she made in September on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast about her 2000 guest appearance on “Sex and the City.” She disclosed that she herself had proposed the idea for her character to share a same-sex kiss with Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw.

“I reached out to them and I said, ‘Might it be a nice time for Carrie to experience a lesbian moment?’ And they said, ‘Why, yes. We were thinking the same thing,'” she shared on the podcast.

She continued, “I do recall kissing her — it was very pleasant,” calling the experience “easy” and “buoyant.”

Pansexuality is defined as sexual, romantic, or emotional attraction to people regardless of their gender identity or sex.

The disclosure also comes as Morissette has been navigating legal troubles. In September, she took legal action in Los Angeles court against her former tour manager, Keren Urinov, accusing her of attempted blackmail. The lawsuit alleges that Urinov, described as a “disgruntled” ex-employee, was caught with drugs in her luggage while on tour in Europe and then threatened to frame Morissette for drug trafficking in an extortion attempt.

Morissette first found fame in 1995 with her album “Jagged Little Pill,” which became one of the defining and biggest-selling records of that decade. The album was adapted into a Broadway musical in 2019, earning her two Tony Awards. Earlier this year, she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
