Amber Heard Shares Rare Glimpse Into Her Life After Changing Her Name and Moving to a New Country

Amber Heard, 40, offered a rare glimpse into her secluded Spanish life with a Wednesday Instagram post from one of Europe’s most celebrated restaurants.

The actress shared a photo showing her studying the wine list at El Celler de Can Roca, a three-Michelin-star establishment in Girona, where festival menus can reach €315 per person. She captioned the shot: “Now this is my kind of wine list.”

The post marks a brief emergence from the low profile Heard has maintained since relocating from Los Angeles following her 2022 defamation battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp. She has since built a quiet life in Spain, where she is raising three children on her own.

Heard announced the arrival of her first child, Oonagh, in April 2021. In a Mother’s Day post in 2025, she revealed she had welcomed twins, Ocean and Agnes. Oonagh is now five, and the twins are 17 months old. She has described becoming a mother “by myself and on my own terms.”

Her path to Spain began in Mallorca, where she initially rented property under the alias Martha Jane Cannary, the real name of Wild West figure Calamity Jane. She later settled in Madrid with Oonagh, and in 2024 purchased a €1.5 million home in the Chamartin district, a five-bedroom property with a garden and three bathrooms among neighbors that include millionaires, footballers and politicians.

Heard has learned Spanish, and Oonagh reportedly attends a private Catholic school for children aged one to six that teaches in both English and Spanish. After school pickup, the pair are frequently spotted at Taste of America, a store stocking Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, Betty Crocker baking products and pumpkin pies. Heard also runs in Madrid’s El Retiro park and last month posted photos with her daughter after completing the KLM Norte Sur 10k race.

The relocation followed a six-week televised Virginia trial in which Depp sued her for $50 million over a December 2018 the outlet op-ed in which she wrote about alleged abuse without naming him. Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, while Heard received $2 million on her countersuit claims. The pair settled in December 2022.

At the time, Heard stated: “I defended my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed.”

A source said: “The trial was beyond stressful, and she wanted to start fresh.”

Some Hollywood insiders have since claimed she was “blacklisted” from the industry. She last appeared on screen in 2023’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” and in 2025 made her stage debut in “Spirit of the People” at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

She also addressed the trial’s aftermath in the documentary “Silenced,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. In a confessional for director Selina Miles’s film, she said: “This is not about me. I have lost my ability to speak. I am not here to tell my story.”
