A person close to Angelina Jolie has stated that the actress is optimistic Brad Pitt will cease his ‘attacks’ now that they have concluded their lengthy divorce settlement.
On December 31, 2024, Judge Scott J. Nord of the Los Angeles Superior Court sanctioned the agreement, a day after both Jolie and Pitt approved it. This resolution comes over eight years since Jolie initially filed for divorce in 2016.
The couple, who were together for 12 years and married for two, parted ways with Jolie citing ‘irreconcilable differences.’ According to the Associated Press, both parties have relinquished claims to any future spousal support as part of the settlement.
Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, mentioned that she is ‘exhausted’ due to the protracted legal proceedings, which were prolonged by custody disputes, issues regarding Jolie’s share in a French winery, and allegations surrounding a 2016 incident aboard a private jet. He noted that she feels ‘relieved that this part is over.’
Following the settlement, a source familiar with Jolie shared insights with PEOPLE about her aspirations for the future.
The source stated: “Brad has successfully used his power and his privilege to cover up his conduct at his family’s expense, to punish Angelina for leaving, and even to attempt to paint her as the reason why his relationship is so challenging with the children.
“Angelina hopes the finalization of their divorce will enable him to move on, stop attacking her, and instead help heal their family.”
Conversely, a source aligned with Pitt responded, telling the publisher that Jolie has engaged in ‘one-sided attacks for the past eight years.’
This source alleged that these ‘attacks’ have involved a ‘continuous misrepresentation of facts and projecting their conduct onto others, resulting in significant collateral damage to those around the family.’
A Pitt-associated source also highlighted the dispute over the French winery, in which Jolie was accused of violating a pact by selling her share, as an ‘exemplary case’ of Jolie’s ‘attacks.’
The source remarked, “Brad built an extraordinary, increasingly valuable business and she chose to deliberately disregard their agreement, and instead of completing negotiations for him to buy her out and keeping Miraval fully in the family and ending the battles, she instead chose to sell to a total stranger not aligned with the company’s vision so she could take the money for herself and punish him.”
