Brazilian influencer Duda Alves has died at 22, with authorities investigating her death as a possible suicide just days after she underwent breast lift surgery.
Alves, whose real name was Maria Eduarda Alves dos Santos, had amassed more than 750,000 TikTok followers under her handle where she styled herself as the “girl who hates things.” Her content mixed comedic rants about pet peeves with glimpses of her life alongside her boyfriend, though she occasionally veered into weightier territory.
The young creator had been open about her recent mastopexy, posting her final video six days before her death to discuss the procedure. She explained that her short stature had left her with breasts disproportionate to her frame, causing persistent back pain that drove her decision to go under the knife in early September.
“I ended up removing half of what I had. It was more of an aesthetic issue, I wanted to wear clothes without a bra, I wanted to have more freedom,” she said in remarks reported by Hugo Gloss.
Alves also voiced frustration about the reaction from some male followers after her surgery. The nature of those comments, and their toll on her, became a focal point as news of her death spread.
Brazilian authorities confirmed Alves died on Sunday. The investigation into her death as a possible suicide was first reported.
Her friend Sarah Mahdavi broke the news on Tuesday, appealing for space as those closest to Alves grappled with the loss. “Duda, besides being my best friend, was my family, my love, and everything more than I could ever imagine,” she wrote on social media. “I ask that you respect the grief we are feeling.”
Alves’s cousin Geovana Alves, 19, joined the tributes online. “I had the privilege of having you in my life for 19 years! They were the best 19 years of my life,” she wrote.
Another friend, Clarissa Pavie, emphasized what she saw as Alves’s defining qualities beyond her platform presence. “She wasn’t just light, she was calmness, authenticity with a touch of dry humor,” she wrote.
Alves’s father addressed mourners gathered at her funeral, held Tuesday at a church in Sao Paulo. He expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from her fanbase while underscoring the fuller circle of love that had surrounded his daughter.
“She also had, in addition to the love of her parents, the love of her relatives, aunts, cousins, her beloved brother, [and] the love of her friends. And how important that is in our lives. Thank you,” he said, according to Hugo Gloss.
The case has drawn attention to the pressures facing young female creators who document intimate medical choices for large audiences, and the unpredictable feedback loops that can follow.
Alves had built her following through an unfiltered persona that resonated with viewers, pivoting between light complaints and rawer disclosures. The breast lift represented her most significant personal revelation in recent months, one she framed around practical discomfort and a desire for bodily autonomy rather than purely cosmetic goals.
The gap between her public explanation of the surgery and the private struggles that may have contributed to her death remains under official examination.
