According to a recent report by TMZ, Cardi B has initiated a divorce from her rapper husband Offset.
The report indicates that the separation has been a ‘long time coming’.
The two artists began their relationship in February 2017 and secretly got married that same year.
They share two children: daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus and son Wave Set Cephus.
TMZ states that the split is not due to infidelity, with a source telling the outlet that ‘they’re just disconnected from each other’.
Although their separation is described as ‘amicable’, Cardi has reportedly employed a divorce lawyer who has filed the case.
She is reportedly seeking primary custody of their two children.
Sources also informed TMZ that the decision to separate was ‘not an overnight decision’. This aligns with rumors of their impending divorce, which surfaced as early as December.
Page Six was the first to report that the two musicians are going their separate ways.
Last year, Cardi disclosed their breakup to fans during an Instagram Live session.
She said: “I have been single for a minute now but I have been afraid… not afraid I just don’t know how to tell the world.”
On Twitter, Cardi expressed: “[Offset] you a b***h ass n**** and trust me imma f**king take it there.”
She added in another tweet: “Mother f**ker will try you when you are at your lowest and your most vulnerable time. You out here feeling yourself but trust me tables turn.”
Both posts were eventually deleted.
In an earlier interview on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, Cardi admitted she ‘never would’ve thought’ she’d marry Offset.
“We’re very different from each other. Yin and yang for real,” she explained. “But one thing that we both love is family. We are each other’s support system. I know that he backs me up a hundred percent and I back him up a hundred percent.”
This isn’t the first time Cardi has filed for divorce; she did so previously in September 2020.
However, both Cardi and Offset later decided to reconcile.
