In 1986, Joe and Kay O’Regan finished their first marathon together, crossing the finish line hand-in-hand. 30 years on, the couple celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary by repeating that astonishing feat.

They crossed the finish line of Cork City Marathon, both aged 80, the only way they knew how: together.
And, amazingly, the super-fit octogenarians won their age group race, completing the 25.5-mile marathon in just over 5 hours, making Kay the fastest 80-year-old in the UK.
“We raced up to the finish, really,” says Kay, “We were able to sprint.”
And what’s the secret to their incredible long-lasting relationship (and fitness)?
“In Ireland there’s a saying, ‘Those who pray together, stay together,” added Kay.
“Well, we say: those who run together, stay together.”
