Cybertruck owner mulls selling it after driver’s reaction to his vehicle

A passing motorist’s opinion troubled one Cybertruck owner so deeply that they considered selling the vehicle.

Since the first trucks were delivered in November 2023, Tesla’s latest vehicle faced significant recalls just a few months later on June 6 due to a major fault.

11,000 Teslas were recalled after a defect in the ‘sail applique’ was discovered, indicating that it ‘may not have been installed according to specification,’ potentially creating a ‘road hazard.’

It was reported that over two million people had the $80,000 cars on preorder, including a few famous personalities like Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, as well as Pharrell Williams, who were spotted driving around in a Cybertruck.

Despite some celebrities favoring the car, one owner started to contemplate returning it.

In a Reddit post, they described their experience when a motorist expressed their disapproval of the new car.

On a Cybertruck-dedicated page, they wrote: “Got my first thumbs down. “Guy rolled his window down and everything, really made sure I saw it. Think I should get rid of the CT???”

People quickly filled the comments section to share their thoughts.

One person urged the driver to respond in kind, describing how they should have reacted: “Put on your sunglasses, roll window down and smile with a sh*t-eating grin.”

A second suggested: “Give him a thumbs up and an excited smile as if you are some foreigner who does not understand. That really confuses those with the finger. Kill with kindness too.”

A third commented: “You’ll never meet a hater doing better than you.”

One advised: “It’s definitely totaled. I’d see how much you can get at a scrap yard for the stainless steel and cut your losses.”

A second remarked: “Get rid of it brotha. It’s been proven that a thumbs down can decrease your lifespan by up to 50%.”

Meanwhile, a third added: “Yes. Get rid of it. Sell it for $20k profit.”

However, there was a potential hefty fine for the driver if they decided to sell the car too soon.

Tesla included terms and conditions with the Cybertruck, which would fine people who try to sell the car shortly after buying it.

The fine is substantial, amounting to $50,000 if someone sells it within a year.

The contract outlines that Tesla ‘may seek injunctive relief to prevent the transfer of title of the Vehicle or demand liquidated damages from you in the amount of $50,000 or the value received as consideration for the sale or transfer, whichever is greater’ if the car is sold without the company’s consent.
