David Beckham declined to discuss reports of strain within his family during a recent interview conducted ahead of his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
As he prepared to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Beckham spoke with Variety about several parts of his career and personal life. He was honored on June 12, 2026, in the Sports Entertainment category, with his wife Victoria Beckham and three of their children in attendance at the ceremony in Hollywood.
Reacting to the recognition, Beckham said: “I actually can’t believe it. I remember walking in Hollywood and looking for the stars, and all these years later, knowing that I’ll have my own star, it’s a huge honor. America has always meant so much to me.”
He also addressed the idea of managing the England national team, explaining that while coaching is not currently a major ambition, leading his country would still be “one of the highest honors.”
However, there was one subject Beckham made clear he would not get into.

During the conversation, Beckham reflected on the pressure that tabloid coverage placed on him and Victoria Beckham over the years, saying: “Our family always comes first. That’s our priority, and that’s what makes it work when you’ve been together for so long. Our priority will always be our family.”
When the discussion turned to the impact of the reported rift, Beckham shut it down, replying: “To be honest, I’m sorry to stop you there, but that’s a private matter. That’s the one thing that I don’t want to talk about.”
The comments relate to the ongoing issues involving his son Brooklyn Beckham, who has publicly stepped back from the family and alleged they were ‘trying to ruin’ his relationship with wife Nicola Peltz.
In a strongly worded message posted on social media, Brooklyn wrote: “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”

He added: “For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.”
Victoria Beckham has addressed the subject as well, speaking about it in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
“We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be,” she said, adding: “And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children.
“And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.”
At his Walk of Fame ceremony, Beckham was joined by Victoria, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, while longtime friend Tom Cruise helped honor him. The ceremony also came during a busy stretch for Beckham, who has remained in the spotlight both for his football legacy and for the continuing public interest in his family life.
