Talking about feeling unhappy with your sex life isn’t exactly something most people bring up over dinner, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a widespread issue.
People often mention oysters as a go-to “bedroom booster,” but doctors have also pointed to another everyday ingredient that’s far easier to find.
According to a recent LELO survey, 25% of Americans reported having sex once a month or less. Among those who were married or in a relationship, 14% described their sex lives as “unsatisfying.”
Some experts believe one common spice could help shift those numbers, with VeryWell health outlining a few reasons why it gets attention.
Researchers suggest one potential explanation is that it may work as an aphrodisiac—meaning a food or drink associated with increasing desire and pleasure, a term linked to the Greek goddess of love.
Beyond that, the spice is also tied to broader health perks, which some specialists say can indirectly support sexual wellbeing.
That said, professionals caution that results can vary from person to person, and it shouldn’t be treated like a guaranteed fix.
“While cinnamon may improve sexual health for some, others may not notice a difference. Adding cinnamon to your diet likely will not hurt. However, talk with a healthcare provider about adding cinnamon to improve sexual health,” Medical expert Jamie Johnson tells VeryWell.
Experts also note there can be downsides for some people, with reported side effects including heartburn, nausea and diarrhea.

If cinnamon isn’t your thing, there are other foods commonly believed to have aphrodisiac-like effects.
Oysters are one of the best-known examples, largely because they’re rich in zinc—though they’re definitely not everyone’s favourite.
For those looking for an alternative (particularly men), some research suggests pomegranate may be worth considering.
“This fruit is rich in various antioxidants that can help cardiovascular health and boost testosterone levels. Pomegranates are a rich source of iron, helping stimulate blood flow which plays a big role in men’s ability to perform in the bedroom,” Dr Grant told The Independent Pharmacy.
