Rian Johnson has revealed that the character Miles in his new movie, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, is not based on tech giant Elon Musk.
However, the timing of Musk’s rise to the top of Twitter draws a comparison. When asked by Angela Watercutter about making a mystery about the downfall of Twitter, Johnson responded with a laugh, implying that he may have already done so.
“It’s so weird. It’s very bizarre,” Johnson opines about the overlap between Musk’s tenure as Twitter CEO and the release of Glass Onion. “I hope there isn’t some secret marketing department at Netflix that’s funding this Twitter takeover.”
Actor Daniel Craig stars as detective Benoit Blanc in the hit movie “Knives Out,” with Noah Segan playing Miles, the tech billionaire entrepreneur, who many have compared to Elon Musk. Director Rian Johnson has stated that the character of Miles is not based on Musk, instead claiming that his character is a general representation of tech billionaires.
However, Johnson acknowledges the eerie relevance of Miles to current events, saying that it feels like it was written this afternoon.
Currently, Knives Out is the number one film on Netflix, with 82 million hours viewed, making it one of the most popular films on the streaming service. It remains to be seen if Musk has been among those viewing the film, but he could be preparing the perfect trolling reply tweet to Johnson.
