A video has surfaced online featuring Hugh Jackman in a moment of deep emotion as he hits a significant milestone, just 10 months after his separation from his wife of 27 years.
In the clip, the Australian actor is captured in the passenger seat of his car, laughing and crying tears of joy as he looks at his phone.
This reaction follows the news that his latest film, Deadpool & Wolverine, has become the top movie globally.
The box office hit made $211 million during its opening weekend in the US and $438.3 million worldwide.
It now holds the record for the sixth-highest opening weekend for a film in US history.
It only trails behind Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avengers: Infinity War, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, and Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.
Despite this professional triumph alongside Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, Jackman issued a statement to People just 10 months prior, announcing his separation from wife Deborra-Lee Furness.
The statement read: “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”
“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
The statement concluded with signatures from ‘Deb and Hugh Jackman.’
Jackman took to Instagram to share the emotional video, showing him laughing at his phone and exclaiming, “oh my god.” The previous post featured his character Wolverine looking at a picture on his bed, which read “number one movie in the world.”
Jackman credits his children, 24-year-old Oscar and 19-year-old Ava, for inspiring him to take on the role.
In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, he said: “I had been talking to my kids about, ‘what do you want to do with your life? What is it you want to do if you could do anything?'”
“And I thought I should ask that of myself, if I could do anything – and I am super lucky in that in many ways I can ask myself that question – what would it be?”
So what was the answer?
It was to reprise his role as Wolverine. After initially declining Reynolds’ proposal to make a film together, Jackman called him back and agreed to the project.
And so, the rest is history.
