The Louisiana senator’s creative moniker — a blend of the high-end athletic apparel brand Lululemon and Russian revolutionary Vladimir Lenin — quickly went viral across social media.
Kennedy leveled the barb while discussing former Vice President Kamala Harris and her recent overtures to the Democratic Party’s socialist wing. During an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Kennedy dismissed Harris as “no longer relevant” following her 2024 election loss.
“No disrespect, but Vice President Harris is no longer relevant. She had her shot and she missed,” Kennedy told Hannity. “She can cozy up to the Lulu Lenins all she wants to. But she has me confused with somebody who cares what she thinks. I mean, she’s yesterday.”
The nickname struck a nerve with social media users, generating thousands of reactions across the platform X. The DSA surpassed 120,000 members in July 2026, making it the largest socialist organization in United States history and exceeding the Socialist Party of America’s previous record of 113,000 members set in 1912. The organization has emerged as an increasingly influential force in Democratic politics, with members and DSA-backed candidates winning numerous races across the country in 2025 and 2026.
Harris’s recent overtures to progressive figures and groups signal a conscious strategic effort to rebuild relationships with the party’s activist left, particularly those critical of the Biden administration’s handling of the Gaza conflict. Some Democratic strategists view the outreach as necessary given that the activist left has demonstrated enough leverage to potentially damage a Democratic presidential nominee if not energized and engaged.
