Kanye West posted on Twitter for the first time in over two years after being suspended by Meta on Friday, a move lauded by Elon Musk, who is purchasing the social media network.
West, who has legally changed his name to Ye, posted a photo of a hat with the word 2024 written on it. Musk replied with a tweet that stated, “Welcome back to Twitter, my friend!”
West last tweeted in November 2020, just after the recent US presidential election. Following his initial tweet on Friday, West sent out another, this time with a photo of himself with Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg, accusing him of banning him off Instagram.
A Meta representative said on Saturday that content from West’s account was deleted for breaking the company’s regulations and that his account was restricted. It didn’t say what was wrong with the content or what type of restrictions were put in place.
The decision comes after West removed a post that featured a snapshot of a text exchange with Sean “Diddy” Combs and was deemed “anti-Jewish” by the American Jewish Committee.
In March, Instagram banned West for 24 hours for hurling a racial insult at “Daily Show” presenter Trevor Noah.
Earlier this week, West sparked outrage for donning a “White Lives Matter” shirt and clothing many Black models in shirts with the same message, which the Anti-Defamation League called a “hate slogan” at his Paris fashion show.
